MPhil/Phd Degrees
Graduate Tutors
Unlike Undergraduate or Master's students, MPhil and PhD students have a home department who are responsible for their progress and welfare. This department is usually the same as the home department of their primary supervisor. Each department has a nominated graduate tutor who oversees all graduate research students in their care. These are currently:

Graduate School
The Graduate School provides support for graduate research students in many ways:

- Conference funds
- Scholarships
- Codes of practice
- Student research log
The graduate school office can be found off the Octagon in the Wilkins building.
PhD Upgrade process
PhD students are normally registered on the two-year MPhil degree and after an interval are upgraded to PhD once they have shown plans and proven ability to complete the degree. Different departments currently have different upgrade policies:
- Students formerly registered in Department of Human Communication Science
- Students formerly registered in Department of Phonetics and Linguistics
