The MPhil/PhD Programme in Linguistics
Our research interest
The Research Department of Linguistics is one of six research groups in the Division of Psychology and Language Sciences and has the following 10 permanent members (you can find out about their research interests by clicking on their names):
Our department provides the ideal environment for research students. You will have the opportunity for daily interaction with fellow students and academics in your field, and you will be supervised by staff who are engaged in world-class research. We offer advanced courses in theoretical linguistics (including access to advanced training through ACTL) alongside training in research methods and skills (through UCL's Graduate School). You will also take part in specialized reading groups, and in seminar series and workshops both within the Department and in the Centre for Human Communication.
Applicants are expected to have completed a Master’s degree in theoretical linguistics. Research proposals in the field of applied linguistics (e.g. language teaching, translation) cannot normally be supervised.
