Research Department of Language and Communication
The department's focus is on both applied and basic research into language and communication disability. It has a strong commitment with practitioners, qualitative methods in communication research, dysphagia research, and the development and evaluation of novel methods for speech and language therapy and assessment. It has strong collaborative links, both academic and clinical, through the Centre for Speech and Language Therapy Research and the Centre for Applied Interaction Research and it enjoys a unique relationship with the UCL Language Sciences Communication Clinic, which is based in Chandler House. Members of the department also have collaborative research links with Developmental Science; Linguistics; Speech, Hearing and Phonetic Sciences; and Experimental Psychology/DCAL.
The department aims to promote an active research culture that offers opportunities for support and self-development to each of its members. Our collaborative working practices capitalise on the membership's considerable capacity for innovation and reflective practice.
